Phoebe Quincy is an anomaly: she’s a woman in tech working to empower more women to enter the world of tech. These qualities are what make Phoebe unique, but it begs the question: why don’t women have equal representation in the world of tech?
Phoebe was one of only three women in her cohort of 20, and being a mother making a midlife career change further set her apart from her peers. This is what motivated Quincy to complete the Software Engineering Immersive, even when it got tough, and it’s also what motivated her to give back; to help inspire more women to break into tech and take charge of their future at any age.
According to a recent Trust Radius report, the majority of women are regularly outnumbered by men in business meetings by a 2:1 ratio, and 26% reported being further outnumbered by a 5:1 ratio.
It’s often said that women just need a seat at the table in order to make changes, but Quincy argues the responsibility is also on the men at the table to hold space in those conversations for everyone. Quincy is adamant that more diversity at the table means more diversity in the technology and products being pushed to market– a win-win for everyone.
“Women absolutely need to be at the table when technology is being built. If we don’t have representation, then we don’t influence what is created. As our society becomes more reliant on technology to solve the challenges we’re creating, we need women and diversity of every kind to be part of the problem-solving process.”
